Seeking Dodge dealership info from Enid Oklahoma

I bought a 71 Dart off Ebay in late 2004.  The car was in Enid and the seller told me that the car was bought new in Enid.   The car belonged to an older gentleman (named Burt possibly).   Anyway the car is mostly redone now and I am looking for a name plaque emblem that came from the Dodge dealer in Enid in 1971.  Anyone happen to know the name of the dealership at that time?

Re: Seeking Dodge dealership info from Enid Oklahoma

You might try contacting Jim Lewis in Enid. He has a used car dealership there and owned the Chrysler dealership in Enid at one time. Here's his website.

You might be able to find one of those emblems at one of the salvage yards in Enid, such as the Sooner Chrysler Salvage there.

CarCrazyGuy,

I answered your question right about the time the internet service was changed so all of the archived threads were lost.

Jim Lewis would be a good reference to contact. His nephew Tommy and I are good friends and we both dragged Van Buren back in late '60s and early '70s until the wee hours of the morning. Tommy severly abused his '70 440 RT Challenger street racing, but then that was the purpose of owning this type of car back then.

So much for the old war stories. I believe the dodge dealership at the time your car was ordered new was Dean Pearson Dodge. Prior to Dean Pearson it was call Hume Motor Company. Dean Pearson sold the dealership and the name changed to Fidelity Motors then Jim Lewis bought the dealership. My history on the dealership is a little fuzzy since I moved from Enid in 1982 but somewhere between then and now the dealership changed hands several time to finally it is now called Johnson's Chrylser/Dodge of Enid. Maybe Johnson's still have paper work on your car archived but it may all be lost since the dealership changed hands many times.

Good luck tracking down the history on your car. Unfortunately, the Feds have made the effort to search the history of an old car nearly impossible. Because of the federal privacy act the State DMV will only release 10 years of previous history,  if you have good reason for them to give it to you.

John

Re: Seeking Dodge dealership info from Enid Oklahoma

Thanks for the info.   I doubt I will find any true history on the car.  I know dealerships have most likely thrown out paperwork from 1971.   I also know that the original owner of my car passed away in 2004.  I bought the car from someone who was helping to sell off the estate.   I am mainly just wanting a dealer emblem to put back on the car from the Enid Dodge dealer to show where the car came from originally.  I will try to contact the people that  you listed above and see if I can turn up something.  Once I get the correct dealership name,  I will be listing a post on craigslist to see if anyone in the area can locate one of the emblems for me.   I do not live in the area so going to a local salvage yard in Enid is not an option.   But I will try to find one somehow......  :)
